Phonics Club conducted a professional teacher-training programme on Teaching English Through Jolly Phonics at SOAR School System in August 2024, led by Dr. Fatima Tuz Zahra.
The programme brought educators together to explore effective approaches to early English literacy instruction and develop a stronger understanding of how systematic phonics teaching can support children's reading and writing development.
From Sounds to Confident Writing
Participants examined the progression from learning individual sounds to blending for reading, segmenting for spelling and developing greater confidence with written language. The session also highlighted the importance of multisensory learning, active participation and carefully structured teaching.
Practical classroom application remained central throughout the programme. Educators were encouraged to consider how Jolly Phonics principles can be integrated into everyday lessons in ways that are engaging, systematic and appropriate for young learners.
Teacher Confidence Matters
The training also reinforced the important role of teachers in building children's confidence. Strong literacy outcomes depend not only on the resources being used but on educators who understand the methodology and can apply it consistently and effectively.
Through professional development initiatives such as the SOAR School System training, Phonics Club continues to support educators in strengthening early literacy instruction and creating more effective learning experiences for children.
