Pilot Project
Phonics Club continued its pilot-project professional development programme in Gujranwala in September 2025, bringing educators together for focused training in effective phonics and early literacy instruction.
The programme was conducted by Dr. Fatima Tuz Zahra and formed part of Phonics Club's continuing efforts to strengthen teacher capacity and support effective classroom implementation.
Progression and Classroom Practice
The training placed particular emphasis on the progression of literacy skills. Participants explored how systematic instruction can help children move from recognizing sounds to blending words for reading, segmenting words for spelling and becoming increasingly confident readers and writers.
Alongside methodology, the programme emphasized practical classroom application. Teachers considered how multisensory activities, clear modelling, appropriate progression and active learner participation can make literacy teaching more effective and engaging.
Sustained Professional Support
Pilot-project training is an important starting point, but sustainable improvement depends on continued professional support. The Gujranwala programme therefore represented part of a broader professional learning journey rather than an isolated training event.
By investing in teachers and supporting classroom implementation, Phonics Club aims to help participating schools establish strong and sustainable literacy practices that can benefit children well beyond the duration of the project.
