From Training to Sustainable Practice - Gujranwala Pilot Project Refresher

Effective professional development does not end when an initial training programme is completed. Teachers benefit from opportunities to revisit their learning after applying new approaches in real classrooms.

With this principle at the centre of its pilot-project work, Phonics Club returned to Gujranwala in mid-January 2026 for a professional refresher training programme conducted by Dr. Fatima Tuz Zahra.

Consolidating Implementation

The programme enabled participating educators to consolidate their understanding of phonics-based literacy teaching and reflect on their experiences of classroom implementation.

The refresher revisited important areas of literacy progression, including sound knowledge, blending for reading, segmenting for spelling and the development of confident reading and writing.

Particular attention was given to strengthening consistency in teaching practice and helping educators connect methodology with the learning needs they encounter in their classrooms.

Professional Development as a Journey

The session also reinforced an important principle of the pilot project: meaningful educational improvement requires continued professional support.

Initial training provides the foundation. Classroom experience then gives teachers opportunities to test, adapt and deepen their understanding. Refresher training brings these experiences back into professional learning, allowing teachers to strengthen their practice further.

Through continued training and professional support, Phonics Club remains committed to helping pilot-project schools develop sustainable literacy practices and create stronger learning opportunities for children.
